The Museum of Sopot exists since the year 2001. Its premises are located in the historic villa built in 1903 by the Gdansk merchant Ernst August Claaszen.

The representative rooms on the ground-floor were designated for the permanent exhibition devoted to the historic interiors, reconstructed on the basis of archival photographic documentation, donated to the museum in 2001-2003 by the daughter of the first owner of the villa - Ruth Koch Claaszen. On the first floor, in the former sleeping rooms, there is the temporary exhibition located and the attic is occupied by the laboratories and the offices. In the former cellar there is a restaurant located.

In the building there is also an elevator for disabled people. Renovation works included the revitalization of a large garden surrounding the villa and the reconstruction of the historic fence of the property.

The Museum of Sopot is situated a few metres from the beach, in a very attractive touristic coastal belt, and it is one of the places frequently visited by the inhabitants of Sopot, the Tricity and the tourists.
