Church of St. Thomas the Apostole and St. Stanislau the Bishop and Martyr in Piotrawin

General

Egységtípus:

Gothic Church with gothic pews, Baroque confessionals, Rococo baptismal bowl with the legend of the resurrection of Piotr Strzemieńczyk – all this can be found on the banks of the Vistula River in Piotrawin.

Gothic Church in 1440-1441 from the founds of the Bishop Zbigniew Oleśnicki is the oldest and the most precious religious heritage of Opole County. It preserved its original apect ratio, cross-ribbed vault, an array of erectile from 1440, Gothic pews, Baroque confessionals and Rococo baptismal bowl. Among the paintings there are “the Court of Bolesław the Brave of St. Stanislaus” with a view of the castle in Solec.

According to the legend, Stanislaus the Bishop from Szczepanów raised in 1074 Peter Strzemieńczyk from Janiszów, in order he testified before the King that he had sold him his village Piotrawin. After the audience, the Bishop led Peter to the tomb. The Bishop broke a twig off the linden tree and put it in the top to the ground near the tomb and said: “Grow in remembrance!” The liden tree, which gave the impression of the tree growing up with roots, lasted until 1930. At the cementary, next to the Church can be seen several ionic columns made in years 1770-1772 to the designed by Ferdinand Nax basilica of St. Stanislau the Bishop, which was to be built with the efforts of Cajetan Sołtyk the Bishop.
