A unique and well preserved sheet metal plant from the early 19th century
In Maleniec, located 24km west of Konskie, on the Czarna River, a historic rolling mill and a nail plant complex having more than a 200 year history can be found. In 1784 Jacek Jezierski, the Castellan of Lukowo, built a plant which included a sawmill, a cable works and a blast furnace production line with 11 power hammers. Among other items, this forge made steel barrels for rifles produced in Kozienice.
Fifty five years later a rolling mill was added with facilities for pounding and shaping metals. A further 15 machines for the production of nails were installed and soon after spades, shovels and other building hardware was being produced. Three water wheels were used to power the plant, which in turn drove a system of belts which set the presses in motion.
Among the well-preserved elements of the plant, the most interesting are; the production cycle of rolling steel sheets and the manufacturing of household tools, the buildings housing the rolling mill, the nail and the spade manufacturing plants, and other unique machines. Every year in July, during the technological and tourist festival “Kuznice Koneckie”, local residents and tourists can see the historic machines and equipment in operation.
