This is one of the finest collections of railway vehicles in Poland. The museum also offers unique historic train rides.
Established in 1986, the museum is located in the main station buildings on the line between Sochaczew and Piaski Krolewskie where, for many years, a narrow gauge railway carried passengers. Currently the museum has over 200 units of narrow gauge rolling stock, the largest collection in Europe.
The open-air museum has a varied collection of steam locomotives and wagons, some of which were made at the end of the 19th century. There are also interesting examples of draisines, various other utility vehicles and railway related equipment. In two halls of the museum are two themed exhibits, “History of Narrow Gauge Railways in Poland” and “History of the Sochaczew Railway”.
Apart from many commemorative photographs there are collections of railway uniforms, lanterns, models, documents, tickets, stamps and many others. Very significant is the original dispatcher’s office equipped with fixtures and equipment of years gone by. In the summer season the museum organises commemorative and scheduled journeys on the historic trains. From Sochaczew the museum train follows the scenic route along narrow rails to Wilcze Tulowskie near the Kampinoski Forest.
