Knyszyn went down in history as a place where Zygmunt-August, the last of the Jagiellons died. The king spent in Knyszyn about 500 days in total. In Knyszyn were signed two important laws: the Forest Law and the Maritime Law. In 1568 tke king gave Knyszyn the status of town. It was the golden age for the town. Zygmunt-August died in Knyszyn on 7th July 1572.
