Church of St Michael the Archangel and St Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr and Pauline Fathers Monastery, Skałka, which means "a small rock" in Polish, is a small hillock in Cracow where the Bishop of Cracow saint Stanislaus of Szczepanow was slain by order of Polish king Bolesław II the Bold in 1079. This action resulted in the king's exile and the eventual canonization of the slain bishop.

In 1876 Professor Joseph Łepkowskiego from Jagiellonian University had an idea to Crypt of the Meritorious. The crypt was opened in May 1880, placing it exhumed the remains of John Dlugosz.In the crypt lie the remains of Merit: Wincent Pol, Lucjan Siemieński, Józefa Ignacy Kraszewski, Teofil Lenartowicz, Adam Asnyk, Henryk Siemiradzki, Stanisław Wyspiański, Jacek Malczewski, Karol Szymanowski, Ludwik Solski, Tadeusz Banachiewicz and Czesław Miłosz.
In recent years, a project of expansion of the Crypt of the Meritorious and create a "National Pantheon on the Rock".
