The history of the monastery and Bożogrobców Church in Miechów reaches XII century.
The monks, who guarded the tomb of Jesus in Jerusalem, brought to Miechów in 1163 Jaksa Gryfit. “Bożogrobcy” initiated the custom of tuning and visiting the tomb of Christ in Holy Week. Presently located here the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre dates from the sixteenth century and is an imitation of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. In the bottom there is the niche where on Good Friday is inserted the figure of the deceased Christ.
