The first museum in Świebodzin was founded thanks to German Regional Society and its chairman - Mr Gustav Zerndt. Already in 1903, in the former hospital rooms, he gathered documents, local craftsmen goods, simple household tools and field tools. After the war, the new museum already in the town hall was opened on May 22nd, 1971 thanks to the efforts of the Society of Świebodzin Region Friends. The beginning of the collection were gits and donations given from 1970 till 1973 including: pictures and icons of the city, elements of armours, showpieces connected with clothiers' life or work and the old prints. Presently the museum has many exhibitions like: numismatics, local gothic and manieristic sculputres, local German paintings from the 20th century, local art craft of 19th and 20th centuries, regional nature, archaeology and graphic collection. From 1986 it is possible to see the panorama of the city from the town hall's tower.
